Silverfish can invade a home and they can be a hassle to eliminate.  If you are looking to get silverfish out of your home, you'll, first, need to learn as much as you can about them. By understanding how they live and what they eat, you can beat them at their own game.

   Starches, glues and flour attract silverfish. Silverfish cause so much damage because they eat the glue, or the binding, off of things like wallpaper and books. Cool, damp areas are usually where they "set up shop", if you will. Silverfish are usually only out at night but if they get stuck in something like a bathtub, they can be seen in the daytime as well.

Keep the clutter out! Silverfish are attracted to areas that are full of clutter and they like to make their homes there. Papers and books that are stacked together in one area are often a drawing point. If you want to save these items, place them where silverfish cannot get to them (such as a large, ziploc bag) and clear out the area. Keep the humidity and dampness down in the area that they are infiltrating will keep them out and get them to move to an area that is better for their lifestyle. In other words, they will get out of your house.

  Make sure that you use the product in the correct areas. Silverfish like to hide out in the cracks around baseboards as well as inside pipes. Make sure that, when you use the product to get rid of them, you get to those hard-to-reach areas. You can buy silverfish repellant to sprinkle around the cracks as well as inside the walls themselves. In order to get inside the wall to spray, you may have to drill a small hole. To be sure that they are gone, vacuum the area daily and keep doing so until you no longer have a silverfish issue.

Despite most people's beliefs, silverfish do cause harm! If left to their own devices, silverfish will find a way into the pantry or kitchen and into your food. They may also begin to cause damage to books and wallpaper. Once you realize that you have a silverfish infestation, get rid of them immediately. If you don't, the problem might get out of hand.
