      Bats usually aren't looking to infiltrate your home; they just want a place to stay.  During the day, bats are usually holed up in their homes, hiding from the sunlight. This is exactly why bats invade human homes. They tend to live in the attic because it's dark and they only come out at night to find food.
     The only real way to keep them out is to keep them from getting in in the first place. Make sure that there are no hole or chinks where bats can get and, if you locate some, close them up with caulking material or something similar. If you have a chimney, that could be the point of entry so make sure that there is no way that bats could enter through it, as well. Contrary to popular belief, bats are unable to gnaw through material to get into a house. When you are closing up the holes, make sure that all of the bats have left your house. An ideal time to do this would be late in the night, when they've all gone out to hunt for food. 

   In the event that a bat has made its way into your home isolate your family into one (bat-free) part of the house and throw open the windows in all other rooms, in order to help the bat(s) escape. You shouldn't really worry about getting the family all together as they tend to do that all on their own with a few shrieks and pointed fingers following the bats location.   Is the bat being stubborn ? If the bat that has infiltrated your house is being stubborn and won’t leave, it’s time to break out the net. That’s right, you have to net the bat and release it outside of your house. Bats are extremely delicate and you must be careful not to injure them as you let them out of the net. image 2

   You may have more than one bat !You’ll want to locate the place where all of the bats are hiding out in your house and make sure that there is no way that they can get back to that place. In other words, wait until dark and plug up the holes that the bats are using to get in. Once the bats have discovered that their home is gone, they will leave to find a new place. You can then open the hole to let any remaining bats out, and close it again. That should be the end of your bat infestation. Be aware, bats breed in the Fall and this means that (should you decide to do this at that time) you run the risk of trapping the children in the area and you will have to deal with the rotting smell later on.

   Are bats outside of your home the ones bothering you ? Invest in a small bottle of dog/cat repellent and spray it around the area that you want the bats to vacate. This will effectively keep them out of the area and they will not return due to the smell. Make sure not to spray it directly on a bat, however, because it will attack you and you might not have time to spray it again.
