| Does that bothersome bee have a rather large, black lower half ? Carpenter bees can be just as much of a nuisance (if not more so) than normal bumblebees. You can tell the difference between the two due to the carpenter bee's dark black lower half. Carpenter bees also lack the distinctive yellow hairs that bumble bees have. | |||

The bee to the right is the carpenter bee. |

A Honeybee/Bumblebee |
A Carpenter Bee | ||
| Saw dust is one of the indicative signs of a carpenter bee infestation. If you see small piles of saw dust alongside your house or in weird places that saw dust should never be, you've likely found the focal point of the carpenter bee infestation. You might also find a yellow to brown colored pile of feces on walls or floors near the nest. Another tell-tale sign is hearing the sound of bees, but never getting stung. If the infestation is truly terrible, you might see small holes where they have burrowed through the walls to make their nests. | |||
Carpenter Bee Control |
||
| Plug the holes ! If you are able to locate the hole in which the carpenter bees have made their nests, great job. Plug these holes with putty or some type of caulking material. For some reason, carpenter bees will let themselves be trapped in their nests and they will not try to find a way out. | ![]() |
|
| Suck It Up ! Another good way to get rid of them is to mess with the nest and suck them into a vacuum as they come out to attack. The best time to do this is at dusk .Make sure that you are wearing thick clothes and a face mask of some sort as they may try to attack you. |

You can use bee killer to get rid of them! Raid is one brand of bee killer that is highly trusted to get rid of any sort of bee infestation. Any sort of bee killer will get rid of carpenter bees. When using a product like Raid, make sure that you only use it on the nests at night as that is when the bees are at their slowest and the chances of them attacking you are minimal. |
||
| Keep them away from your house. Once you've eliminated the immediate threat of the carpenter bees, replace the wood or plug every hole with putty. This makes is so that the bees are no longer interested in your home. | ||
| Long-term protection. Add vinyl siding to your home, as that keeps carpenter bees away. Also, painting your home on a regular basis can keep them away from your house and its walls. Be aware, staining wood will not keep carpenter bees away, contrary to popular belief ! |

| Killing Bees with Bee Spray VERSUS Killing Bees with Boric Acid |
|
Killing bees with Raid isn't the only option. Raid is a great product that provides quick and easy killing of those pesky bees, however, there is another (albeit, slower) method that you can use. It's called boric acid. Boric acid is also referred to as Borax and it can kill bees just as it kills ants.In short, the boric acid gets onto a bee and that bee proceeds to walk back into the nest. Slowly, all of the bees are poisoned and the nest dies due to the poison. See boric acid products. |

Drain files are also called moth flies or sewer gnats. They look quite a bit like moths. They are dusty and they have trouble flying just like moths, but they are actually flies. Once you've observed one of these flies, it is highly likely that there are hundreds more in the near vicinity. They are often misidentified for fruit flies. This is understandable considering that both are tiny, pester people and spend time in large groups.
Drain flies lay their eggs in your pipes. As their name suggests, drain flies put down their eggs in the things that lay in your pipes such as skin, hair and things of that nature. During the time the eggs emerge, anywhere between ten and two hundred larvae appear in less than forty-eight hours. The larvae eat the material that they were laid in and, in nine to fifteen days, they become fully grown drain flies. In the daytime, they while away time mostly by sitting on walls or other such surfaces and that makes them an easy target. Once killed, a powdery residue is left behind that must be cleaned up. Their life span is about two weeks long. Don't assume that your problem is over until you've killed all of the eggs that are in the drains. If you don't kill them, you'll never do away with them.
If measures are not taken to get rid of drain fly larvae and drain fly breeding grounds, you will never be rid of them.
How to Kill Drain Flies in the Drain |
|
|
Buy Scotch Tape to cover drains to test presence of drain flies |
Find out where they are coming from. Locate a drain fly and find the nearest drain. That is likely where they are coming from. To check, use a piece of tap and lay it sticky side down covering about a quarter of the questionable drain. For the next few hours, check the drain and, if there are flies on the tape, that's where they're coming from. |
|
Buy Pipe Snake to clear pipes of organic matter that drain flies breed in. |
Get rid of the eggs. Start by cleaning the hair catcher in your drain, if you have one. Using a pipe brush or a pipe snake, clean the rest of the drain out. You want to remove any organic material from the drains that they flies could or could have laid eggs on. Pull everything out of the drain and throw it away. Look forward to to getting muddled during this excursion. |
|
Buy Drain Cleaner to fully clear drains of material that drain flies live and breed in. |
Even a pipe snake can't get everything out. It is very difficult to get unrefined matter outside the drains and pipes of your house. Buy a bottle or two of drain cleaner, to fix that! Pouring it down the drain should get the remainder of the junk out of your drain system. Make sure that all instructions are followed properly and use as much as you can on your pipes. |
|
Buy a Plunger to further clear drains of matter that drain flies live and breed in. |
Plunge the area. Just to make sure that you didn't miss anything, you'll want to plunge the drains. Keep forcing water into the drain to make sure that you've gotten rid of all of the cleaner. Splattering yourself with chemicals is never a good idea. While running the water, plunge the drain for quite a few minutes. Once that's been done, pour a large pot of boiling water down the pipe. Make sure you don't burn yourself in the process! |
| Keep up with the household chores. Clean your drains often! Do it once a month at least, lest you wish to repeat the experience. If you have a trash clearance, it's a good idea to run it at least once every day so that the material goes down the drain completely. In short, keep all organic material out of reach of flies and make sure that anything that you are throwing away really does get thrown away. | |

Taking the proper steps to kill fruit flies is important.You need to remove their breeding grounds, store food properly and get rid of the fruit flies to keep them from coming back! |
![]() |
Fruit flies like to eat rotting fruits and veggies.As their names suggest, they like to eat (and lay their eggs in) rotting fruits and vegetables. They can lay as much as five hundred eggs at one time! Therefore, it is easy to see how fruit flies can create swarms overnight. They can also increase over time due to their rapid birth rate. Fruit flies tend to be most bothersome in the summer and fall. The following are the steps you need to take to get rid of fruit flies for good. |
Fruit Fly Control |
|
![]() |
Remove all breeding grounds that involve food. If you have any overly ripened fruit or vegetables, then it’s time to get rid of them. Cover all bowl and keep them in the fridge and wash all of the dirty dishes. Fruit flies love to lay eggs on dirty dishes as well as any sort of material that has rotten food on it. Get rid of any food that has gone past its expiration date. If you find fruit flies, clean the surrounding area and scrub everything down with hot water, disinfectant and a sponge. |
![]() |
Locate other breeding grounds. Fruit flies also like to breed under refrigerators and in places like that. Clean out your fridge and dishwasher thoroughly to make sure that flies aren’t breeding there. Until the fruit fly infestation is gone, you’ll want to wash all dishes by hand and make sure to use the garbage disposal! Clean and wash out any place that has been exposed to moisture of any type or humidity. That is a calling to fruit flies. |
![]() |
Properly store your food. Once all of the rotting things are gone from your home, make sure that you box up and protect all of the good food that remains. Invest in containers and things with sealable lids. You can store just about anything in these and it’s a good idea to do so until the infestation is gone. Buying a garbage can with a sealable lid isn’t a bad idea, either.
|
![]() |
Take precautions. Once you’ve taken steps to get rid of the flies, there are some other things that you can do! Keep all trash as far away from the home as possible. Move your outside trash can to a place where it is easily accessible but far enough away that the flies won’t reach your house should they decide to invade your trash. Cover any yard waste and patch any holes that allow access into your house. |
| Set a timer. So, you’ve gotten rid of all of the flies and taken all of the precautions. You might think that those flies are gone but don’t celebrate until you’ve waited two weeks . If, after one breeding period, you see no more flies, then it is safe to say that you got rid of them all. That’s when you can celebrate. | |
