Ants are perhaps the most common household pests that exist today. Ants travel in groups, so the presence of one ant likely means the presence of hundreds more that you may or may not see.  These pesky insects seem to be able to get into every crack and crevice. Of course, ants have been on the planet for millions of years, so they aren't going away anytime soon.  However, we as humans have ways to get rid of ants that have invaded or homes and our other personal spaces.

Ants go into your house for one good reason – to find food.  Human homes have limitless supplies of food in the eyes of ants.  Therefore, what you need to do is limit the food supply for ants as much as you possibly can.  This means thoroughly  cleaning countertops, floors, tables, and all other such surfaces so that there is minimal food residue for the ants to be attracted to.

Ants usually enter the home through cracks, screen door mesh, open windows, and various other openings.  Try to follow ant paths to see where they begin and that will likely let you know how to ants are entering your home. The next step then is to seal these ant entrances.  Caulking works really well to seal up cracks and other openings where the ants may be entering.

After you have done your part to make your home less inviting, use repellent to spray the entrances that ants frequent.  You can also lay ant baits to catch any ants that are still persistent in entering your home.

Getting rid of ants means sealing entrances, making food unavailable to the ants, and using repellent to prevent ants from returning to the house via common ant pathways.   Try some of the ant repellent products below to get rid of ants for good.

Getting Rid of Carpenter Ants

The first choice to get rid of carpenter ants in your home is to spray aerosol pesticides into the entrance of the nest and place sweet baits (Boric acid or Terro) near the nest. Ant baits and ant spray may be able to end your ant problem, but the spray needs to make it far enough into the nest to guarantee complete ant extermination.   Ants in nests have been known to survive for several months without feeding.

RAID Ant Baits

The second choice to get rid of carpenter ants in your home is to drill holes in the wall to penetrate the nest, and then dust and spray with ant killer. If you notice more than 20 winged ants in your home during the spring, then it’s possible that you have a larger colony established somewhere in your home, and if you want to get rid of carpenter ants the best way to do this is to find their nest, drill holes into the nest, and dust with boric acid or Knox Out (Diazinon), and spray with an aerosol insecticide.
