Ants are just one of the many irritating pests that can be found in your home today.

When you see a lone ant, it does not normally mean that one has meandered into your home on its own. In fact, there are likely many more that you just don't see. Ants are able to work their way into homes through cracks in the foundation and other small areas that humans don't think anything of. They can be amazingly annoying and a great pest but, then again, they have been on the Earth for a few million years. Therefore, it is unlikely that we'll note their disappearance any time soon. Through our technology, though, we have found ways to keep the ants from swarming our homes in great numbers and we are able to put up “walls”, if you will, around our homes.

We all need to eat don't we? This includes ants.

Ants don't waltz into your home just because they can, although it seems like it. They are really on a never-ending quest for food and your home just happens to supply what they need. In the eyes of an ant, your home is one giant Thanksgiving feast that never ends. There are ways to stop the ants from even setting eyes on your food, however. Make sure that you clean off all counters or table areas and try to sweep crumbs off of the floor as best as you can. This makes it so that the ants don't have anything to draw them in in the first place.

Ants are very sneaky creatures and they will enter your house in any way that they possibly can.

When in doubt, follow the ants until you find where they are entering from. This can be anything from a crack in the wall to screen mesh on your front or back door. If you have a crack in the wall that is letting ants into your home, you can use caulk from your local hardware store to seal it up.

Once you are sure that the ants are finding ways into your home despite your best efforts, it's time to break out the insect repellent. Spray entrances or places that you have found ants to frequent. There are also special bait traps specifically geared towards ants that can be placed in your home. This is a mess free way to capture the invaders.

When you get rid of the ants that are invading your home, you must seal up entrances, get rid of any food that still lingers in the open and use insect repellent as resources. You can use some the ant repellent products below to help get the ants out of your home.

Eliminating Carpenter Ants

First of all, you're going to want to spray bug spray around the entrances that ants most frequent. Then, you'll want to place “sweet baits” or baits that utilize (Boric acid or Terroaround the same entrances or, better yet, the nest.   Spraying ants with spray and baiting large groups of them may lead to elimination for a time but, in order to completely kill them, you must make sure that any poison that you set out makes it deep into the hive itself. Ants that live in the nests have been reported to live for months upon months without any food at all.

RAID Ant Baits

You can also choose to drive nails into the wall, directly into the nest then spray with ant killer.   If you notice an excess of twenty winged ants in your home during the Spring season, then you likely need to follow through with this method. A large nest or colony has likely erected itself in your home and it needs to be eliminated. The best way to rid your home of carpenter ants is to locate the nest and drive nails through it at which point you'll then dust it with a poison powder like boric acid and spray with ant killer.
